Not goodbye but see ya later

The class multimedia apps and tools was more then I thought it would be. Each week we learned something new or if some already knew the lesson then they could improve on their skills. It sadden me to say that I will miss this class and all of the great people in it. The class was taught by a teacher that really thought for the students and how to teach the material was really well develop. So to all the students who gets to read this, thanks for all the feedback and hope to hear from you either on facebook or twitter. Well I hate goodbyes, so I will say best of luck to you all and hope to see or hear from you guys in the future. Take care and keep on smiling. Class was a blast.

Remix that copyright shortie

Copyrights is a tricky thing to follow. With so many saying what we can and can not do, I wounder about remixes. I have heard music remix, watch video mash ups, and see photos tweaked to fit the remix part of the law. Even though Stephen Colbert made fun of Lawrence Lessig, and I did laugh a few times but when it comes down to it is remixing breaking the copyright law. When I think of the answer for this, I think back to the famous Obama poster that was made. I think when someone remix your work and does not use it for money or any time of commercial use then it should be find, but if they do then they should get the original artist's ok before doing so. I believe even if someone is selling a remix that they should say who the original artist is and even share half the money to them. I know if I spent a lot of time working on my song that I am working on now and someone remix it without telling me then I would get mad just like anyone, but if they remix it and for some reason it got me known faster then I would be ok with it however as long as they tell people that I am the artist. But when it comes down to it, do we really want to hear a lot of news about remixing and who is in trouble doing it, I know I do not. One of the things I try doing because I am a facebooker, is try not to post so many pictures of me online or any other media that people can just take without me saying so first, it's hard to do but I try to.

Welcome to Facebook

After reading about this week article, "The Facebook Generation vs the Fortune 500" I found the article really well written. When asked how the online life that the article talked about, will change ones life whether it's work or even just your life. Well, I believe that the 12 online life that was talked about, has already change most of our lives. Most sites today have links to their twitter and facebook sites to help their audiences receive updates quicker and faster. Most college's are using the Internet for online classes. I agree with the 12 online life and how they are. I have seen a lot of changes in just the five years whether it was business's add more links to their site or more people using mass social media like Twitter and Facebook. The Internet has given so much to us, but at the same time has also taken away some stuff that has long been forgotten or at least fading away. I remember reading the old Spiderman comic books, and one thing always stuck out to me when he says, "with great power, comes great responsibility." Thinking about that quote, made me thinking about technology and the mass media on the Internet. With all of the great things that mass media on the Internet and technology can do, there has to be some kind of responsibility too. I think we have gotten a little side track with that.

Lets go ride the Long Tail

After reading this week article about the "Long Tail", I could not wonder about how this would effect me. I am not a normal online shopper unless I am getting my CCV books on the school site. I have kept up with online shopping and all that it has to offer because my aunt does a lot of shopping on my dad's side of the family, and also I have looked at some of the sites they talk about in the article like Itunes, Walmart, and ect. But over the last two years have made me think about maybe starting to shop online more. This past summer, I went to my best friend's house and his mom was talking about a food she use to eat, when she was younger. She told me how it has been years since she saw the food she liked in Vermont. I told her if she remember the company's name then type it in Google. So she did and as soon as she did it pop up. Since that time, I to have looked up somethings that I like and just like my friend's mom it to pop up. So now that I have found somethings I thought, I would never find again in Vermont, makes me want to do some more online shopping. As for the entertainment side of things like music and movies, I have found Netflex and Itunes something I am going to sign up for. I have known about both companies for sometime now, and have study them from friends that are using both companies, and personal research. When the article talks about how it is 99 cents per track, well I think that is a good price because everyone has to get paid some how. So I say if your not on the "Long Tail" now, you will soon be just like me. The way technology is today compare to back then, time will only tell, but one thing is for sure and that is the fact that the Internet makes shopping, entertainment, ect to a whole new way we interact with one another.

Give me that podcast

Before this week in Multimedia Apps&Tools class that I am taking at CCV, I knew very little about podcast. I have heard the term before and people talking about it but never really understand it full until this week in class. When I did a little research on podcast, well I came across a web site that I felt helped me a lot on understanding about and how to make a podcast. After reading the site, I found myself scratching my head saying, "really that's all that a podcast is." I was amazed to learn that a podcast is like a radio show and the only difference that really stuck out was the fact that you do not have a lot of guidelines like radio broadcast does. I believe that podcast would be good to have one that would want to voice their opinion without so many guidelines. I listen to a few podcast online, and would have to say that some sound really good, as to some that sound not that well at all. I like the fact how you can update your device that you are using for podcast without the hassle of waiting for a new link to download the newest show. I found it very unique that not only one can have more freedom on what they talk about, but how quick you can get them on your device. It was amazing to also learn that the podcast was develop by a former MTV VJ, Adam Curry who hosted hits in the 80's. I think sometime in the future that it would be neat to have my own podcast/talk show to talk about real things going on in the world.

Hans Rosling

After watching Hans Rosling presentation of the third-world myths, I found this useful material very helpful to watch. Hans gave a lot of great information on the third-world myths. One of the things I like from his presentation how he uses some humor to keep the audiences interested into the presentation. I think the technology he used was some what like a flash video presentation which I believe helped explain what he wanted to say in his presentation. I think it helped because he could really talk in depth of the data he was talking about compare to just using images or charts. I like how when he talked about different years and how the myths were compare from then to now, but what I really like about the comparing of the different years is how with in the video it change with the years as well as the data at the same time. Another thing I like what Hans said is about data. When I was listening to him about data, it made a lot of since that data is out there but to reach it you have to do so much like have passwords, and ect. I find that very true because I know when I am looking for data on the web its hard to do. For example this last summer I took a class that require me to look up some data, and I was having a very hard time trying to do this. So since I had a hard time with that data that I was trying to find, I had to find a different topic to write about which I did find data for but it just shows that with different data out there, some are harder to find compare to other. Either way I agree with Hans on how data should be more available to everyone. I believe that if data becomes more available to everyone, not only will it be easier for everyone to get but also help everyone understand the data out there more clearly. After watching this movie I can take away a lot from it. One of the things I will be taking away is how to use more media in my presentation then just using images. I know my presentation well not be at the same level as Hans but I sure could try and the more I use Power Points then maybe some day it will be as good as Hans. So in other words my goal for my presentations is to improve them and to some day get close if not as good as Hans. I really like watch this movie very much.

Kindle for all? maybe not

After doing my research on the new Kindle 2, I found this new device amazing. When reading about how audio books are trying to to slap a law suit on Amazon, I found this to be something else. It seems like audio books are just trying to get some kind of money out of Amazon. Its not like Amazon is not charging money for their books because they are. I think if audio books did not want Amazon to use text-speech for their books then they should not sell their books to Amazon. After reading about the law suit and Kindle 2, I really believe that this whole law suit is a joke. I also believe that Amazon and this new device is just trying to reach out and connect people to reading a book compare to reading articles or other materials that have taken so many people away from reading a good old fashion book. I hope in the long run that if the law suit goes to court that the judge looks at it and throws out the case, and rule in favor of Amazon because I believe they are in the right.

To be or not to be

After doing some research on a topic this week for one of my classes, I found this topic very unique. In the news their was a guy named Shepard Fairey who found a picture of our president Obama and edit it to his own. After this happen the company that took the picture he found online (Associated Press) claimed that Mr. Fairey violated the use of their picture. This claim has been an on going battle between the two parties. My thoughts on this is if AP used a type of copyright system like Creative Commons to copyright their picture then there would be no means to go though all of the courts, lawyer's fee and ect. I believe that Mr. Fairey did nothing wrong because in all the reading I did on this topic stated he did not received any money for his poster. I think if he had received money then he should have credit AP. Now on the other hand if AP put some kind of copyright on their picture then Mr. Fairey was at fault for not saying where he go the picture from. I think the best way to stop stuff like this from happening is to simple credit where you got the picture or whatever you are working with that is not 100% yours. If you do not know about a picture you are editing then you need to find were it was from, ask about it and remember if you are not using that picture for money or anything else that would violate the fair use provision of the copyright law than you are in the right to use that materials. Now for the companies out their, if you do not want people taking your work then simple slap a copyright on it and be careful where you put it on the web. Copyrights not only say who gets the rights of that material but also lets others know they cannot use that material. It is a nice system when everyone knows about the material they can and cannot use.

IPod Art

If you look at what is now compare to back then in art, it has change a lot. After looking at some of the things you can do with the IPod/IPhone app known as Brushes, I was amazed of how great some of these pictures/painting looks. I think the more our Cloud modifies with apps like this, the more it will look like anyone could draw/paint a picture and also improve peoples creative minds. With more technology changing the art world, I believe that it will be more good then not because it will make people want to express them self more. With apps like this you could also save on lots of money from buying the art supplies you would normally buy. I do not have apps like that on my phone but I do take pictures on it. I normally use photoshop to edit my pictures. I find this program simple to use and quick once you know what you are doing. I cannot draw good so I just take a lot of pictures of different things, some of the things I take pictures of is sunsets and animals. Last year I took a digital photography class and some of my pictures I would say was amazing. So to answer your question on if I'm a phone photographer, well sometimes I am but I like to think of myself more of just a photographer. So what does everyone else think about after reading this article about the app known as Brushes? I think it is a good idea to use today's technology for something good and creative so people can express them self more, we need it in today's world.

Creative Commons

I read the article, "What is Creative Commons." www.rss-specifications.com/creative-commons.htm is where I read the article. This article is an intro into creative commons. I found that after I read this, I got more understanding of copyrights. This article really help a lot because I like to make movies/music and I always wanted to use copyrights for my work so people cannot use my work. Even though this article was short, it did explain the different types of creative common license options to pick from which was good to know. I think now that I've read the article that I will try finding the creative common site so I can read more about it and also see if it is something I want to sign up for. I believe that copyrighting your work helps not only you and your work but also makes it so others cannot take your work. I think everyone should check out this article for a quick intro on creative commons.

The next 5,000 days of the web

The video I watch was called "the next 5,000 days of the web" by Kevin Kelly. This short video clip made a lot really good facts about where the web was to compare to where it may go. This video was made in 2007, so from then to now I have notice some of things he was talking about to take place like the needs for the web to be on cell phones. I remember just a few years ago the web on a cell phone was limited to just the phone's home page to get ring tones, wallpaper, and themes. Now you can get Netflixs on your cell phone so that just shows the needs for other media interacting with one another. I like what lesson 1 says, "Have to get better in believing the impossible." I think once we start to do this it will help everyone be more aware of what the next years to come may be like. Another thing that really got to me about what Kevin said with his math about "the machine." It was something when he talked about in the next 30 years how the example of one machine=1HB(human brain) will be 6 billion HB. I found that amazing. Overall good short video to watch with lots of facts.

My cloud

In my thought about the technology or or in other words my cloud is that I have notice a lot of different things from making movies to networks like facebook. I have always like making music beats off the computer, and in the last 5 years I have notice more programs coming out making it easy, quicker, and more beats then they had years before. Movies are another thing I love to do whether it is to make them or watch them. Movies have been turning more into 3D and using more 3G to make their movies to give it that imaging feel to it. Now I got some mix thoughts on movies using more 3G, I feel that it kind of takes away from the actors/actresses ability to act. The reason why I feel this is because with 3G you just stand in front of a big green screen. I have had my cell phone for some time know, and that's how everyone gets in touch with me. I think it is amazing that in just five years the way cell phones look and what you can do with them now is just mind blowing. About a couple months ago I have heard about Netflix is now on some cell phones. Years ago you would never think they could do that with a cell phone. I believe in the years to come the imaging idea of what technology could do is endless, but as long as people use it for good then it could be a great outcome. There are some things like I've talked about with the movie part, that needs to be look at maybe I'm an old fashion guy but I like seeing acting in my movies.

multimedia apps & tools

Taking a tech course online does not really make me nervous as much as if I do all my work and the computer crashes on me and I wouldn't be able to make it up. That's really my only anxieties I have for this class or any online classes. I'm taking 4 online classes this fall and I just hope this does not happen. I have taken online classes before, I just got done over the summer, which was intro to flash. My first online class was not good at all, the teacher didn't want to help the students at all and thought the students should know everything and didn't respond to the students at all. And if it wasn't for a former student that took that class, well I would have to take it over. So my first online class was not good at all, and to tell you the truth I didn't want to take another one because of that teacher, until my intro to flash which was a lot better so here I go for round 3 and hope it turns out good. I normal don't blog much at all, but I do use face book to chat to my friends and post my YouTube stuff. My goals for the class are very simple: past the class, give it my all, learn more about blogging, and multimedia apps and tools.
